Age/Race/Gender

Can we ask everyone we survey what age they are (try to get a mix of staff (academic and non) / students), what race they are and what gender they identify with.
It would be interesting to see if there are variations within the results, ie. are women more aware of a gender imbalance? Are people of colour more aware of a racial imbalance? Do older or younger people perceive these issues less or more?

If we could also ask yes or no questions, or ask them on a scale of 1-5 it produces quantifiable data which is easier analyse for me over the weekend, and then turn into 'facts'/ statistics.
And then ask for further comments at the end, statements which we could selectively use.

If we go down the road of an online survey tomorrow, we can have a laptop set up in the canteen where we can ask questions from the laptop, and record peoples responses. I think this would be easiest for me from a data point of perspective because it is all in one place for me to look at and then if we don't ask enough people we can do it on Friday as well. I'm not sure which site would be best to do this so we will need to research that some more.

We could perhaps buy some biscuits or something and offer people a biscuit if they take the survey and there and then.

Below is a rough model to show what I'm talking about, we can change the questions more tomorrow. I don't think we should have more than 10 questions.

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Do you study at Goldsmiths? / Do you work at Goldsmiths as academic staff?
Do you work as non-academic staff at Goldsmiths? Not affiliated to Goldsmiths in any way. (Control)
Picture of person one - Do you think person one is a student/ academic staff/ non-academic staff?
Picture of person two - Do you think person two is a student/ academic staff/ non-academic staff?...

Do you think universities have a racial bias when selecting students? Yes/ No/ Unsure
Do you think universities have a racial bias when selecting academic staff?

Do you think universities have a gender bias when selecting students?

Do you think universities have a gender bias when selecting academic staff?

Do you think there should be quotas for hiring staff of different races?

These type of questions give me the ability to say "50% of people* agreed that universities have a racial bias in hiring staff
".
*who responded to our survey

I have a good textbook on research methods which I will bring tomorrow to help us perfect the survey as well.
